Our FAQ section is in the works! Look for more answers soon, and feel free to contact us with your questions here!
Are there any petroleum products, parabens, or phthalates in DressGreen products? TOP Definitely not! DressGreen products are also free of sulfates, silicone ingredients, and animal products.
Is the full list of ingredients included in each product description? TOP Yes! We are proponents of truth-in-labeling, and each item description contains the full ingredient listing. Are DressGreen products vegan? TOP The majority of the DressGreen line is vegan-friendly (including the sugar we use in our body scrubs), however there are a few products in the line that contain either silk protein (the Chamomile & Calendula Shampoo bar), or honey powder (Organic Cocoa Facial Mask, and Coconut Creme Body Scrub).
Are DressGreen products cruelty-free? TOP Absolutely! DressGreen never does any animal
testing, and we source all of our ingredients from reputable suppliers
that maintain safe, sustainable, and cruelty-free practices. What is the shelf life of each product? TOP Like all skin care products, DressGreen products do have a shelf life.
For best results I recommend using most products (including facial creams, toners, mists, & masks; body creams, & exfoliants) within one year from
the date you receive them, while products that do not contain a
synthetic preservative (including lip balms, serums, body butters, & salves) should be used within six months of being
received. Our soaps, shave bars, & shampoo bars do not have an expiration date, but may start to lose their scent over time.
Do you use sustainable palm oil? TOP DressGreen uses only organic palm oil that is sustainably harvested in South America (it's better for the environment and tropical ecosystems where palm oil is grown!).
What is the source of the Vitamin E in your products? TOP Our Vitamin E is sourced mainly from Soy. Occasionally it may also be sourced from corn and sunflower.
Why do you use a preservative in your water-based products? TOP Due to the nature of any product made with water, it must contain a full-spectrum preservative to prevent the growth of bacterias, mold, and yeast. DressGreen has chosen to use a preservative system of Phenoxyethanol & Caprylyl Glycol in our water-based products to ensure they will be safe and free from these harmful agents. This preservative system is free of parabens and formaldehyde (which are common components of many other preservative systems).
There are many products out there that will claim that a preservative either isn't necessary, or that there are plant-based ingredients that can effectively preserve your lotions and creams. Unfortunately, this just isn't true. Here are problems with some of the most common "plant-based" preservatives you may hear about:
*Potassium Sorbate: Although this preservative can protect against mold and yeast, it is NOT effective against bacteria. It also must be used in a fairly acidic mixture to actually be active as a preservative. Most importantly, virtually all of the world's production of sorbic acid, from
which potassium sorbate is derived, is manufactured synthetically from
the gas ketene... making this a completely unnatural ingredient option.
*Grapefruit Seed Extract: GSE does not serve as a full-spectrum preservative, and instead is only effective as an antioxidant (protecting oils against rancidity) - this means that it does not prevent mold and bacteria from growing in your lotion. GSE is also thought to have potential endocrine disrupting activity.
*Rosemary Oil Extract: This also does not serve as a full-spectrum preservative, and is only
effective as an antioxidant (protecting oils against rancidity) - this
means that it does not prevent mold and bacteria from growing in your
lotion.
*Vitamin E: Again, this ingredient does not serve as a full-spectrum preservative, and is only
effective as an antioxidant (protecting oils against rancidity) - this
means that it does not prevent mold and bacteria from growing in your
lotion.
Ultimately, if you want to use a moisturizer that does not contain a preservative, I would recommend checking out our natural body butters, salves, and serums - all of these products are free of water and therefore do not need a preservative system!
How are DressGreen shampoo bars different from most commercial shampoos? TOP Most commercial shampoos contain harsh synthetics that ‘cleanse’ by
stripping your hair of everything, including natural oils. That not
only leaves your hair dry and unmanageable, but also dull-looking. DressGreen natural shampoo bars are created with mild, hair-loving ingredients. They cleanse away daily dirt and buildup without removing natural, beneficial oils, leaving your hair
nourished and naturally beautiful! And an extra bonus - they also work
great as a bath soap too! Will your shampoo bars leave my hair "squeaky clean"? TOP Since our shampoos don't strip your hair's natural oils, they generally leave hair more moisturized, and with better texture and body. While some people report getting the 'squeaky clean' feel, our shampoos are free of sulfates that generally produce that result.
